An important viewpoint, particularly with regard to 'techno-optimism' (am bringing all of this into critical review for a CPD programme I am currently developing for The Commonwealth of Learning, Vancouver.) Thank you.

Alberto, I would love to hear your take on how covid affected goal 8 on decent work for all. in my opinion, more practically important than years of schooling.

and to your point on schooling – I think schooling does matter a lot from a developmental perspective (esp. social, emotional) up until a certain age (especially if you can start early), but I don't think it should be the golden standard after that age necessarily

Good point – I find that SDG8 is one of the broadest goals and does not have a very coherent strategy (sort patches together a lot of different goals that very rarely work together), so I don't love that one. But they have to work together. I do believe that some areas of SDG8 could have huge effects on education + work, for example with regards to youth unemployment: creating more job and training opportunities for youth is probably more effective than focusing on universal access to higher ed.
